Well, the semester has begun! I’ve been to 3 out of my 4 on campus classes. I’ll go to my tutorial on Tuesday night. I hope it’s not too hard. It didn’t sound too bad in the description but we will see. My other classes seem okay. I am actually doing the reading for history! It’s amazing. 🙂 The professors seem really cool too. I think I am kind of excited for the semester. It’s going to be a lot of work though. Tons of papers. But if all of the history reading is like The Trial I should be okay. There are 4 papers for that class, 2 short and 2 long. Communication Research Methods seems fun too. A big group project though. Ew. But oh well, the topic will be fun. I think our group decided to go with “where do University of Michigan Dearborn students get their news?” but that will probably change next week and throughout the semester. Critical media studies sounds cool too. I’m not really sure what to expect from that one but the teacher seems super nice. I’m having issues with my online class, PR Principles though. I can’t see any of the course content! I sent an email to the professor yesterday but haven’t heard anything. Hopefully soon. I want it to be fixed. 🙁
This past Thursday night was the first large group of the semester for IV. It was awesome, I loved seeing everyone. Christy’s talk was really good too, she talked about how IV aimed to be a fun, encouraging, supportive community. She talked about how too often we are part of communities that limit us. That don’t promote growth (whether it is Christian-y or some other type of personal growth). She posed the question “why are you here [at IV]?” for us to think about. Here is what I came up with:
- Friendship
- Acceptance
- Encouragement in my walk with God
- Desire to become closer to God
For the most part everyone I’ve met through IV is awesome. I think they have been some of the nicest people I’ve met during my time at U of M Dearborn. From the first invite to large group last semester, to being instant friends with Sharayah, to being invited into her circle of friends. People seeing me around campus and stopping to say hi. Jed & Ricky carrying me to and from the park during Sharayah’s party so I could still hangout with them. Ricky, Nino & others getting me out of the mud at the picnic. 🙂 All of these seemingly insignificant things mean a lot to me…. I’m so happy I joined IV. 🙂 After large group I went to Dairy Queen. That was cool. I hope that this semester I’ll get independent/comfortable enough to go to Applebee’s with them. Who knows, perhaps even a boyfriend? There certainly isn’t a shortage of cuties… 😀 At the least I’m confident that I will make some amazing friends. Which in all honesty, is all I ever wanted in that respect.
On the other side of the spectrum– 4 days till I see Dr. Innis! I’m so excited. This appointment is more than just seeing a new doctor. Based on what he says I may be starting a trial with him which I desperately want to do. If he’s not interested though that’s fine! I’ll just pack my bags and head to Baltimore. Beach anyone? 😀
