Last Saturday (Sept. 26) was a very exciting day. My best friend Danielle and I had the opportunity to attend a pre-season Red Wings hockey game thanks to the generosity of Joakim Andersson. He is #18 and plays center. He has donated 2 tickets to every home game so that local MDA families could attend free of charge. We had such a great time !!
Danielle really likes hockey so she was able to explain what was happening when I had no idea. 😀 We were nervous that it was going to be difficult to park but it was actually super easy. Our GPS directions took us straight to one of the parking garages. After we parked we went across the street to pick up the tickets and food vouchers at will call. We each had a voucher for a small drink and slice of pizza or hot dog. After we got the tickets we headed back to the parking garage area which had a tunnel connector to the arena. We were about an hour early so it wasn\’t crowded yet. We grabbed our pizza and pop and find our seats. The view was great!
We used the time before the game started to snack on our pizza and take pictures for Facebook. I wanted to make sure we got at least one picture together. We also got one of our matching bracelets that I made using my rainbow loom. I also made my headband. 🙂
A little while after the game started our goodie bags were delivered! We each received an autographed photo of Joakim, some Red Wings temporary tattoos and official wristbands. So of course we put those wristbands on and took another pic. A few minutes later my name was up on the big screen!
The game itself was pretty cool. I hadn\’t been to a Red Wings game since middle school. I was able to follow what was happening for the most part even with my low vision. During the first intermission the entertainment was a tricycle race. That was cute. The second intermission was similar, more fun interactive stuff. The game ended up going into overtime because the score was 3-3. The overtime procedure was new, it was 3 on 3. Danielle\’s boyfriend Nick was super jealous that we got to see it in person before he did. He\’s also super into the Wings. Unfortunately we ended up losing but it was so fun!! We were even on the big screen for a minute!

After the game we headed back to the van through the tunnel. This time it was much more crowded. I was trying not to lose track of Danielle so I was like okay, follow the giant 13 (she was wearing #13\’s jersey). But, of course that is one of the most popular players so at one point there were 4 people in front of me wearing jerseys and 3 of them were #13. That made things a little more complicated. Haha. But I didn’t get lost and we made back to the van safely!
All in all it was a great night. It was something different for us, another thing to add to our list of adventures.
