October Updates

I’m way overdue in posting an update… the biggest thing that’s happened since my last post is that my grandma passed away in late August. In true 2023 fashion, a flurry of chaotic events occurred in a short span of time.

After my grandma passed my parents needed to travel down to Tennessee to have a small funeral service as well as handle some financial and legal matters. Cara and I decided to stay here with the animals and boy was that an adventure. During the time my parents were out of town we:

  • Got Dairy Queen blizzards
  • Watched lots of Big Bang Theory
  • Comforted Bella all night who was terrified of thunderstorms multiple nights in a row
  • Sheltered in place in the basement in the middle of the night due to a tornado warning
  • Ate way too much take out
  • Cleaned / organized the house
  • Identified organizations / individuals to donate excess medical supplies and equipment from taking care of my grandma
  • Relaxed by doing diamond dot crafts
  • Learned how to use a power screw driver
  • Put together a bathroom cabinet

As you can see, it was a mix of both fun and scary events. Luckily we had people in the area checking in with us and we video chatted with our parents every day. I have to admit, it was weird being away from them for so long. It was only after they got back that I realized that I’d never been away from my mom for that long. Ever. Even when I was living in the dorm during grad school, I came home almost every weekend. I’m very proud of my sister- even during the tornado warning she stayed calm. She woke me up, got me downstairs as well as Bella and Snowflake. We made a good team. 🙂

In the months since my grandma passed we have been slowly trying to get used to our new normal. We also got a hot tub! I tried it out this morning – complete with a Starbucks chai latte.  I’m really hoping that this will help with reducing my muscular pain. Fingers crossed it does!
