Abby Jimenez has done it again. I’ve read all of her other books; after each one I think this is my favorite! But then I read the next one and change my mind. “Just For The Summer” is no exception. I feel like this one is more emotional than her previous works but maybe I need to reread them… I love how her books all exist in the same world and have tiny connections to each other but at the same time are their own stories. I related to both of the main characters – Emma and Justin. Emma has been through a lot and throughout the story she realizes just how much of an effect it’s had on her. I could relate to her feeling like she was detached from everything… able to compartmentalize to a fault. Sometimes I feel like this. But, also like Emma I try to choose empathy over anger. This is such a good phrase. (I still love Abby’s Grace costs you nothing phrase from “Part of Your World”. I adored Justin’s character. The description of him being a “docking station” made my heart melt. He’s such a sweetheart and willing to do whatever it takes to care for his family and the ones he loves.
I will note that this book does have content that could be triggering or too much for some people. It’s important to read the warnings before starting. I’ve linked two resources above to learn more about the content and there is also info at the beginning of the actual book.
